Contribution to Strategy: SIM Niger’s 100+ missionaries serve in a wide variety of ministries in numerous locations across the country. The purpose of SIM Niger is to glorify God by planting, strengthening, and partnering with the Church in Niger. With 50% of the population being under the age of 14, and the literacy rate hovering around 30%, there is intense pressure on the national school system. Having someone who could assist local teachers in assessing individual students who are struggling with reading, writing or basic mathematics is crucial. The national church greatly desires trained teachers and currently there are few specialists in this area in Niger. As we hope to establish a more formal teacher training program, this individual would be key in training future teachers as well as providing help to those currently in classrooms.
